Jiayi Bai
Vice-President Academics Candidate
What sort of events or resources would you like to provide to students in terms of academics?
Lab tours around campus to help first years decide what discipline they want to go into, casual competitions (building popsicle bridges, paper airplanes, and other fun engineering-related things), scavenger hunt with engineering-related clues, engineering-related trivia night and escape rooms, and parties after midterms and finals.
How do you plan to represent the views of all first year students when interacting with academic committees or the faculty?
I’m a very outgoing person, so I talk to a lot of people throughout the day. I’ll make note of what I learn through these conversations, so I can accurately represent their views when I interact with the committees and faculty. I will also make my contact information (email, maybe discord and instagram) easy to access, so people can still send me their concerns if we don’t get to interact in person. Finally, I will put my personal views aside when I act as VP Academic so that I can objectively represent the first-years as a whole.
