GNCTR is the University of Alberta’s longest-running engineering vehicle project group, which the University of Alberta helped found in 1974. We design and build an entirely new toboggan every year with a full steering and braking system, and sliding surfaces made entirely out of concrete. Our annual competition is hosted by a different Canadian university every year, and is attended by hundreds of dedicated students from universities and technical institutions across the country. Schools are judged on technical design, presentation, team spirit, and race day performance.

We take pride in our hard work and our toboggan design, but we take even greater pride in the diverse community of both engineers and non-engineers that we build and nurture.

Weekly builds provide opportunities to develop carpentry, metal working, and concrete pouring skills, and be part of a unique team of students passionate about innovation. Members invited to join the competition team develop connections with students across Canada and professionals from sponsor and alumni interactions.
