Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Project (ARVP)

About

Founded in 1997 at the University of Alberta, The Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Project (ARVP) is the oldest interdisciplinary Project Team on campus. ARVP is a student-led and managed project group that develops technologies and students in robotics. Currently, ARVP focuses on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to compete annually in the international RoboSub Competition held by the US Navy which we consistently perform exceptionally every year.

We serve students from all faculties, particularly engineering and computing science, so they may solidify their understanding with real-world problems through our four sub-teams; Admin, Electrical, Mechanical, and Software. In addition to a magnitude of diverse projects from each sub-team – demanding a variety of different skill sets – each member is provided with the education and experience to become a subject matter expert in one or multiple portions of ARVP's vehicle design.

We engage our members and community through our triple mandate: Skill Development, Social Network, and Career Opportunities. Getting involved in community outreach to promote post-secondary education and demonstrate practical uses of robotic technologies. Providing a space and home for students to not only thrive, but to create long lasting connections with members through our emphasis on building workplace culture. With our team consisting of a very diverse demographic group, each individual brings a unique set of skills that continue to allow us to expand the areas and possibilities of our project.
